Painted in a monochrome style of black and white creating stunning contrasts and lighting which can be seen in the details throughout the architecture of this piece. The reflection of the glass pyramid onto the reflection pool is absolutely mesmerizing. The small amount of blue added to this piece is perfectly placed by adding it to the rooftop, it simply adds that unique architectural feature of Paris herself.
This painting started out as a commissioned piece.
While I was painting in Paris at Notre Dame on the day I was finishing "Girl In Paris, Polka Dots", I was approached by a lovely woman from Hawaii that wanted to purchase "Girl In Paris". At that time I had not made a decision as to what color to paint the dress, and the woman suggested deep purple polka dots to compliment her interior wall. However, she wanted to buy two paintings in order to create balance in her home.
So, the dilemma was, what should the subject of the second painting be?
The Louvre, of course!
I had a couple references on my phone, and we chose one. Next was the decision to paint it in black and white or color, and if it should be in black and white should we add a complimentary color? The final decision, as you can see here, was to paint it in black and white contrast and add blue to the roof in order to keep it simple.
